Remedies for Knee Pain
This article discusses home remedies for knee pain especially of the knee joint; a joint in the middle part of the human leg that is the articulation between the femur, tibia and patella also called knee joint. The discussion is also about how to deal with swelling, stiffness etc.
The causes for knee pain include injury, obesity, Arthritis, dislocation of knee cap, sprains etc.
The symptoms include stiffness early in the morning after getting up from bed; Swelling, tenderness, disability to move knee joint property, pain while walking.
Helpful Remedies for Knee pain -
Try to lose excess weight.
Physiotherapy can be useful.
Gentle massage of Olive oil is advisable.
Use oils that have natural camphor in them. Give gentle massage of this on affected area after which use a hot pack to give relief.
Bromelain present in Pineapples is useful to treat knee joint pain; so eat small pieces of Pineapples 6 to 7 times a day.
Enema is advisable as it helps to tone up the intestinal system.
Historically NSAID drugs are used; but these produce side effects. Herbal products that have Boswellia serrata are also highly effective and do not produce any side effects. If powder of Boswellia serrata is not available, use Boswellia Serrata based herbal supplements.
Take Ginger juice daily. If you find the raw juice pungent, then mix it with a cup of water to dilute it and then drink it.
Foods rich in vitamin B may be useful to treat inflammation and pain related to the joints. Good food sources are lean meat, fish, eggs, Soybeans, lentils, whole grain.
Regular exercises should improve muscle tone and fitness.
Eating Flax seeds 1 teaspoon daily helps with knee pains.
Omega 3 fatty acids present in fish oil are also useful.
Crush two cloves of Garlic in sesame oil and give a gentle massage of this oil to the affected area. This massage helps to ease the pain and swelling.
Prepare a paste of Turmeric powder (Curcuma longa) in oil. Apply this paste on the affected area. Leave it for one hour, and then wash it off with warm water.
Drink Carrot juice and Indian Gooseberry juice daily as they both are antioxidants.
Processed foods are rich in sodium; try to avoid the same as these may increase the swelling.
Salmon, Flax seeds, Walnuts are a rich source of omega 3 fats. So these are advisable.
Take small ice pieces, crush and wrap these in a small piece of cloth and keep it on the knee for about 5 to 10 minutes, keep the affected knee in an elevated position using a pillow.
