Knowledge behind blood sugar supplements:
Gymnema sylvestre: The major bioactive constituents of Gymnema sylvestre are a group of oleanane type triterpenoid saponins known as gymnemic acids, a chemically complex mixture of saponins and guramarine which is a polypeptide of 35 amino acids. *
--- Bitter Melon: Bitter melon is a tropical and subtropical vine of the family cucurbitaceae, widely grown in Asia. Historically Bitter melon was used as a dietary item, incorporating its usefulness as a good food source. The traditional way to use this is to boil Bitter melon fruit in buttermilk; dry the contents in shade; when the extract is completely dry for a few days, grind it into powder and consume it on a daily basis as a dietary supplement.*
--- Salacia oblonga: It contains active constituents, glycosidase inhibitors, Salacinol and Kotalanol9. Alpha glycosidase inhibitors are saccharides that act as competitive inhibitors of enzymes needed to digest carbohydrates...*
--- Fenugreek: Fenugreek is used both as an herb (the leaves) and as a spice (the seed, often called Methi). The plant is cultivated worldwide. Fenugreek is a common and well known herb in the world. The benefits and uses of Fenugreek were first described around 1500 BC in Egyptian literature for various dietary uses. Since then the uses of Fenugreek started in various forms.
--- Cinnamon: Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several trees. The Hebrew Bible makes specific mention of the spice many times. First one was when Moses was commanded to use both sweet Cinnamon and Cassia in the holy anointing oil. Cinnamon constituents possess antioxidant action and may prove beneficial against free radical damage to cell membranes.*
--- Jambolan: Jambolan (Jamun) is an evergreen tropical tree in the flowering plant family Myrtaceae. This is known by many names and it is a favorite fruit of many animals. It has been mentioned in herbal texts, that Jambolan is one of the greatest fruits ever. The leaves bark, and seeds are the most useful parts but the seeds have most beneficial features.*
